Current Projects

Edinburgh College has long appreciated the value of international projects and what they can bring to our learning experience.  We want to build on our experience gained to date and enhance it by continuing to be involved with existing partners and working with new partners in joint programme development and delivery.

Current Partnership Projects


Edinburgh College, in partnership with the Government Women's Polytechnic College​, Bhopal, India successfully won funding through the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) to expand and enhance the Textile and Fashion curriculum of both institutions. The joint project will share best practice, delivery materials and training, in addition to offering training and web-based marketing opportunities for local start-up textile and fashion businesses.


Edinburgh College was also successful in our second UK -India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI)-funded bid in partnership with the University of Delhi. The project (D-LITE) is developing a digital literacy skills programme for the 21st century economy. The collaboratively developed programme will position digital literacy along with digital life skills and digital inclusion as an essential skill to drive digital participation.

Skills for Employability

Edinburgh College in Scotland and the National Institute for Vocational Education (NIVE) in Dubai, UAE are working in partnership to deliver a Skills for Employability project, funded by the British Council​. This two year project started in November 2010.  It aims to raise employability skills and opportunities through innovation and creativity.  Its aims and objectives link with the Scottish Government strategy to get young people into employment and addresses several aspects of the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, including the enhancement of vocational education awareness in Dubai.

Student and Staff Mobility

Erasmus Charter for Higher Education

Edinburgh College considers the Erasmus+ Programme​ a valuable opportunity for students and staff within the College sector to gain vital skills within key growing industry areas, supporting growth nationally and internationally as part of a wider college strategy to increase our internationalisation and create a positive destination for every student.

Student and staff mobility is encouraged and promoted across the College's 4 campus. Mobility actions are prioritised which directly support the overall college strategy, or contribute in other ways to enhancing the College's cooperation with its partners, or complement the College's strong commitment to European and international cooperation in further and higher education. Staff participation also contributes to the professional development of both our teaching and non-teaching staff.

International collaborative partnerships are a core element in our broader strategic objectives. The College's policies and procedures ensure quality assurance, development, monitoring and evaluation of cross-border collaborations.

The College has a well-established network of partners with whom we have been working with for many years. Many of our partners have come from existing links between academic staff. Others have been developed through existing networks and other international projects. The College is open to working with other new partners, particularly in a geographical area where we currently do not have an existing partnership.

Our international partner institutions are diverse, reflecting the different needs and priorities of our partners' and our own students and staff. As well as developing partnerships which are multi-dimensional and strategic, we also recognise the place of specialist, focussed partnerships which support growing industries both nationally and internationally.

There is a drive to develop strategic partnerships that support positive student destinations and articulation.

The College is committed to extending the range and opportunities available through mobility for our students and staff, predominately through work placements in order to diversify participant learning, share best practice amongst programme and partner countries, increase employability and cultural competence.

In all our international activities we recognise the importance of regular monitoring and evaluation, as well as the sharing of best practice, in order to inform and influence our future practice, policy and strategy.​​​
