Duty of Care and Safeguarding

Edinburgh College has a duty of care to safeguard all students, and to ensure that the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults  is a priority. We have policy and procedures in place to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect or significant harm.

Who are the Safeguarding Team?

The Safeguarding Team is made up of two Safeguarding Leads –

  • Kara McKenzie-Tait (Wed-Fri)
  • Craig Hughes (Mon &Tues)

The Safeguarding Leads are responsible for addressing all safeguarding concerns, reports, or disclosures related to students. If you need to contact them, please email Safeguardingleads@edinburghcollege.ac.uk.

What do I do if I have a safeguarding concern?

Everyone has a responsibility to keep children, young people and vulnerable adults safe. If you have a safeguarding concern about yourself , another student or someone in the community, please make a member of Edinburgh College staff aware.

Do I need to disclose my criminal convictions? What happens if I am charged with a crime whilst attending Edinburgh College?

If you have any questions or concerns about disclosing charges or criminal convictions, or if you are unsure about what information you should provide please contact the Safeguarding Leads on safeguardingleads@edinburghcollege.ac.uk or call 0131 297 8081. The Safeguarding Leads will be able to provide the necessary supports and safeguards to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
