How to Apply for Schools College Partnership (SCP) and Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) courses

This will be your first college application, so we want to ensure you have all the necessary information to feel confident about taking that step.

You should always discuss your course choice with your Guidance Teacher or SDS Careers Advisor. This is so they can:

  • Advise you whether it is the right course and level for you
  • Discuss how it will fit in with your plans and other studies
  • Support you with the online application process and personal statement

Some courses may require you to participate in a selection process as part of your application. You will be notified in advance, allowing you time to prepare.

If you receive any support for learning at school, your Guidance Teacher will complete a transition form as part of your application to inform the college of any additional support needs.

Information you will need to make your application

Before you make your application, make sure you have

  • Your Scottish Candidate (SCN) Number
  • A personal e-mail address to set up your college account
  • A personal statement in support of your application

Making an application

  1. Course applications are completed online. Once you have identified the course you wish to apply for, click on the 'apply now' button. You will be asked to create an account if this is your first time applying to college.
  2. Please register an email address that you have access to and ensure you continue to monitor it regularly, as all college offers and communication will be emailed to this registered email address.
  3. Continue to follow the on-screen questions, and if you have any concerns, please speak to your school's guidance teacher or SDS adviser.

What happens next?

  • You will receive an email confirming your application has been received.
  • Some courses require an interview, audition or a task in support of your application before an offer can be made.
  • You will receive a conditional or unconditional offer. An unconditional offer means you have been accepted and are guaranteed a place on your course. A conditional offer means you must achieve further qualifications or meet specific criteria before you are accepted on the course. The conditions you still need to meet will be clearly listed in your conditional offer email.
  • You will be invited to attend a college for a mandatory course information and induction session. Arrangements for your attendance will be made by your school and communicated to your registered email address.
