Apprenticeships are a great way of getting valuable work experience which can lead to enhanced employment opportunities.   Edinburgh College offers a range of apprenticeship options which  prepare students for the workplace. 

Modern Apprenticeships
Designed for any age from school leaver onwards, modern apprenticeships combine:

  • Paid employment 
  • college training and 
  • an industry recognised qualification
giving you real life skills for work.

EARN + LEARN + WORK = MODERN APPRENTICESHIP

You must be employed to start a modern apprenticeship the training gives you the knowledge and qualifications to develop at your workplace. 

Edinburgh College currently offers apprenticeship programmes in Automotive, Engineering and Fire and Security Systems. Future modern apprenticeship opportunities may include: 
  • Hospitality
  • Customer Service
  • Life Sciences
  • IT Digital

Pre-Apprenticeship Courses are available across a range of disciplines and are suitable for adults of all ages.  They provide an entry route into the trades, helping students to develop their skills and build contacts for future employment opportunities. ​

 


Foundation Apprenticeships (SCQF Level 6) developed by Skills Development Scotland, with the support of the European Social Fund, enable pupils making their choices in S4 to S6 to complete elements of a Modern Apprenticeship while still at school. 
From August 2016 Edinburgh College will be offering Foundation Apprenticeship programmes in the following areas:

>4 subjects A-C

​IT & Digital Software​Pupils making S5 choices

>A Science or Computing A-C
>3 subjects A-C
August/September 2016 / 2 years
​Civil Engineering​Pupils making S5 choices
Minimum of five National 5s:
>English A-C
>Maths A-C
>A Science A-C
>2 subjects A-C
​August/September 2016 / 2 years

College attendance
2 half days per week: Tuesday and Thursday

Location
The delivery location of each of the programmes is still to be confirmed. Please note there will be funding to support travel to campuses where required.
