Course Overview
This full-time six-week course is focused on preparing unemployed graduates with an HND or degree level qualification for working in a Financial Services organisation. Designed in collaboration with Lloyds Banking Group, Tesco Bank, TSB, Sainsbury’s Bank, and HSBC among others to meet the needs of Financial Services employers in the Edinburgh and East of Scotland region, supporting expansion plans and replacement hiring.

Financial professionals from the industry will co-deliver key aspects of the curriculum, giving insight into how content relates to organisations and practice to contextualise the learning. You will have the opportunity to visit the workplace of financial employers in Edinburgh. The course will also give you the chance to directly network with industry professionals.

Throughout the course, the focus will be on preparing you for a role within a Financial Services organisation. There will be a strong emphasis on improving your employability through practising pre-employment screening, recruitment and selection processes which are widely used across the sector. The course has been designed around known vacancies within the sector.

Placement Information
  • You will not be required to attend a placement during this course but you will have the opportunity to take part in employer site visits
Entry Requirements
To apply for this course you must pass the following three requirements:

1. Qualification Requirements
This course is aimed at anyone who has graduated from Higher Education in college or university and is looking to start a career in Financial Services.

  • Applicants must have successfully completed an HNC/D or a course at degree level
  • This should be at SCQF Level 7 or above in any subject discipline.
  • You must be able to provide evidence of your higher education certificates (digital or paper copies)
2. Credit Check Requirement
You must pass a credit check vetting form in order to attend this course:

  • You would pass a credit check (late payments of credit cards/council tax etc. does not mean that your credit check will automatically fail).
  • You will be encouraged to complete a credit check vetting form. You will receive this when you complete your application form.  

3. Personal Statement Requirements
Prior to attending an interview, you should include responses to the following questions in your personal statement within your application.

  • In less than 100 words, please provide your best example of when you have had to pay real attention to detail to ensure things were done properly.
  • Describe the importance of teamwork in an organisation. You should use an example from your own life experience to illustrate your answer (you can draw your example from a work or non-work-based situation). (Approximately 500 words)
  • Describe a situation where you have had to work within a set of guidelines or instructions. Explain why it was important to follow these instructions and the consequences of not following these instructions. (Approximately 500 words)
  • In one sentence, summarise what you understand to mean by the term 'customer service'

Information on Test/Auditions/Interview Requirements
To be eligible for this programme you must be:

  • Able to attend an interview
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • That you do not have any unspent criminal convictions
  • You must also provide photo identification such as a passport or driving license.

‘Fast Track’, a six-week work-readiness course developed for HND/Degree level under or unemployed graduates progressing a career in financial services, has been announced as winner in the Pioneer category at this year’s Scottish Financial Services awards on the 24th October 2019 in Edinburgh.

The awards celebrate the very best in Scotland’s financial services industry.  ‘Fast Track’ was amongst three finalists in the ‘Pioneer’ category which recognises innovative working within the sector.

The course has been co-designed and delivered with financial services companies - ensuring that the six-week programme meets industry needs and, for participants, provides a strong position to secure future employment.
