Course Overview
-

Sports Activity Leadership is a stepping stone towards a rewarding career in sports coaching or the leisure industry. This course is designed to develop the essential knowledge and practical skills you will need to lead sporting activities. Edinburgh College has vital industry connections and you will spend three days a week on work placement gaining valuable practical experience in the industry; putting your leadership skills into practice. To succeed in this course you will need to have a good level of communication, an active interest in sport, fitness, working with children and be physically fit.

  • Participation in Games and Sports such as: Volleyball, Rugby, Hockey, Football, Basketball, Badminton and Mini Tennis 
  • Level 2 Sports Leadership  
  • Resistance Training  
  • Human Physiology  
  • Health and Wellbeing 
  • Entry Level Coaching Awards in Tennis
  • Communication 
  • ICT 
  • Numeracy 

Entry Requirements
-

  • Three passes at National 4 in relevant subject areas, English and/or a science subject would be advantageous but not essential 
  • Appropriate experience would be helpful either from placements undertaken at school or other involvement in the industry 
  • If you do not have the formal requirements but you are a mature student, wanting to change career or have taken a career break to raise a family you are welcome to apply 
  • In these or other cases we would consider work experience, life skills and potential ability 
  •

  • IELTS 5.5
How the course is assessed
-

You will be continually assessed through written tests, group exercises and practical exercises. You will put together practical and written evidence in the form of a portfolio. 

Information on Test/Auditions/Interview Requirements
-

  • You will be invited to attend an interview where you will be expected to demonstrate a knowledge of and active participation in fitness health and exercise activities 
  • This will include a practical element 
  • The interview session may also include some written work to assess your general knowledge in fitness, health and exercise anatomical systems and identify your personal aims objectives and potential career path 
  • There will be a one to one discussion with a member of the sport and fitness team
