Course Overview
-

Sports Activity Leadership is an exceptional course designed to enhance your practical skills and knowledge in a range of fitness techniques. During this course you will take part in fitness activities and gain an insight into the industry; preparing you for a rewarding career. You will study a variety of topics, develop your practical skills and discover your fitness coaching potential as you take part in a coaching placement. This placement will take place once a week in local primary schools and will give you valuable practical experience in the industry as well as strengthen your employability skills. To succeed on this course you will need to have a good level of communication, an active interest in exercise, fitness and working with children and be physically fit. 

What You Will Learn

This course focuses on leading exercise and physical activities and you will study subjects such as: 

  • Practical Coaching Experience 
  • Child Protection 
  • Resistance and Fitness Training 
  • The course also incorporates the Level 1 Dance Leaders Award  
  • Exercise to Music 
  • Emergency First Aid  
  • Human Physiology 
  • Health and Wellbeing 
  • Communication 
  • ICT 
  • Numeracy 
  • Working with Others 
  • Problem Solving 

 

Entry Requirements
-

  • Three passes at National 4 in relevant subject areas, English and/or a science subject would be advantageous but not essential 
  • Appropriate experience would be advantageous either from placements undertaken at school or other involvement in the industry 
  • If you do not have the formal requirements but you are a mature student, wanting to change career or have taken a career break to raise a family you are welcome to apply 
  • In these or other cases we would consider work experience, life skills and potential ability 

English Proficiency Requirements

  • IELTS 5.5
How the course is assessed
-
You will be continually assessed through written tests, group exercises and practical exercises. You will put together practical and written evidence in the form of a portfolio.
Information on Test/Auditions/Interview Requirements
-

  • You will be invited to attend an interview where you will be expected to demonstrate a knowledge of and active participation in fitness health and exercise activities. 
  • This will include a practical element 
  • The interview session may also include some written work to assess your general knowledge in fitness health and exercise anatomical systems and identify your personal aims objectives and potential career path. 
  • There will be a one to one discussion with a member of the sport and fitness team

  • SVQ 2/CYQ2 Exercise and Fitness Instructors Course 
  • HNC/D in Fitness Health and Exercise
