The show revolves around a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Elementary in the USA. These unconventional adolescents who love spelling compete from different schools in the Bee with big hopes of winning, and the contest is run by three equally quirky grown-ups. Packed with infectious songs by William Finn, witty dialogue by Rachel Sheinkin, and a few surprises throughout, this fast-paced, feel-good show is a joyous celebration of embracing your true self.
