A design group made up of Edinburgh College lecturers, graduates and other designers has picked up a Sunday Herald Scottish Culture Award.
The Blueroom Collective group, founded by Edinburgh College design lecturer Alex Gunn, was presented with the Designer Award at this year’s Scottish Culture Awards ceremony in Glasgow – dubbed Scotland’s Cultural Oscars.
The Edinburgh-based group beat off stiff competition from four other finalists in the Designer Award category to scoop the prize.
The award recognises the group’s work in graphic design, design education, and associated creative practices with a focus on cultural, social and political issues.

Blueroom Group creative director and lecturer in graphic and digital design, Chris Hughes said: “This award recognises our work in experimental visual communication, and follows our successful exhibition at Somos Arts in Berlin back in May. We are currently preparing for a new show in Edinburgh in October.”
The Sunday Herald Culture Awards in association with Edinburgh Napier University celebrate the very best of Scottish culture and recognise the huge pool of talent across the Scottish arts and cultural scene.
