Edinburgh College has been shortlisted as a finalist not once, not twice, but three times at Scotland’s largest celebration of college achievements.
The college has been nominated in the Employer Connections and Sustainability categories at the College Development Network (CDN) Awards.
In addition, HNC Legal Services student Sarah Cameron has been shortlisted for the Student of the Year honour. Sarah has shown drive and commitment through challenging times and excelled in her studies throughout last year – now she’s on track to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer.
Principal Audrey Cumberford said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted three times by CDN, it’s fantastic news which demonstrates just how much brilliant work goes on across Edinburgh College.
“I’d like to thank everyone whose hard work and dedication throughout the past year has led to these award nominations – you’re all already winners in my eyes.
“Special congratulations go to Sarah Cameron, our Student of the Year nominee. It’s wonderful to see our young people receive recognition for the commitment and effort they put into their studies. We all send our best wishes to Sarah – good luck and bring it home”
The college has received its Employer Connections nomination as a result of a number of innovative schemes run by the Creative Industries faculty aimed at bringing students, pupils, educators and employers together to support young people from the beginning of their education, ensuring they’re ready to meet employer needs in what is an ever-developing work arena.
Work throughout 2017/18 included: the growth of the Graphic Design Daydream Believers programme which sees pupils, student ambassadors and employers work together to showcase employment opportunities in the sector; Broadcast Media students and staff producing industry quality film coverage of national sporting events, including for the BBC; and the annual Creative Industries Employability Day which sees hundreds of students connect with guest speakers and employers to learn of job opportunities across the sector.
Sustainability is high on the agenda for all organisations. This nominations comes off the back of amazing work carried out by the Sustainability team which has ensured the college has surpassed carbon reduction targets ahead of schedule. The team has also enhanced cycling facilities for staff and students as well as further developing the college’s Community Gardens.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony being held at Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Thursday 25 October.
These latest nominations continue a hot streak of award shortlistings for the college, following the hard work of our STEM Engineering and ACE teams securing final spots at the Herald Global Game Changers Awards and the Herald and GenAnalytics Diversity Awards.
