If you are starting at Edinburgh College this semester then here is everything you need to know to prepare for your first day.
Be prepared for your first class
Make sure you arrive with plenty of time, especially in the first few weeks. Bring a pen, a notebook and a good sized bag to fit your books in. Go to the campus reception when you arrive on your first day. You will then be directed to your subject area and taken to your class by your lecturer.
Get your travel sorted
If you plan on taking the bus, you might need to get a student bus pass. If you plan on taking the car, you will need to apply for a parking permit. Read our campus guides to find out more.
Organisation is key
Use a diary or start a calendar on your phone to organise your time and deadlines. Also, keep a photo of your class timetable on your phone to refer to.
Do your life admin
Stay on top of your finances. Open a student bank account and don’t forget you are now eligible for student discount. Also remember to apply for funding – find out more with our guide to funding.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Everyone is in the same boat so don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re struggling you can talk to your class lecturer or LDT. If you need advice or guidance you can drop into student services on your campus at any time. Read our campus guides to find out more. If you have a learning support need, read our blog post Reasons to Disclose your Additional Support Need.
You worked hard to get here so enjoy every minute of it.
