This National Progression Award (NPA) in Construction Multi Skills is an entry level certificate designed to teach you the skills needed for a career in the trowel trade or a related occupation. During this course you will gain key employability skills that are essential when entering the construction industry. You will study units such as Brickwork and Health and Safety which will enhance your knowledge of the industry.
This course is taught between Edinburgh College classrooms and our workshops where you will gain essential, hands-on and real-life experience of the construction trade.
This course works as a steppingstone towards applying for an apprenticeship in the construction industry or further study. You will be encouraged to gain a work placement with an employer within the construction trade for the duration of this course. These opportunities will be supported by your College lecturers but are not mandatory. Practical work experience with an employer allows you to gain knowledge of the construction industry and will heighten your employability skills. This course is based at Edinburgh College’s Granton Campus.
- Health and Safety in the Construction Industry
- Technical Drawing
- Information Technology
- Decorative Painting and Finishes
- Roof Slating and Tiling
- Concrete Finishing
- The Core Skills of ICT, Numeracy and Communication will be developed and certificated on this course
- Two passes at National 4 Level, this must include a pass in Mathematics and one in any other subject
How the course is assessed
The course is unit based and will be graded through SQA Assessment Strategy through continuous assessment in both practical skills and theory
Progression And Articulation Routes
- Further education within Built Environment and Engineering areas
- Construction related apprenticeships which can then lead to full-time employment, self-employment or owning your own business
- 3 days per week over 36 weeks
Course Cost And Funding Options
Many students have progressed to workshop and site managers, self-employment and running their own company. Students have gone on to employ their own apprentices as well as many winning awards for their hard work
