This course is for pupils who are in their fourth year of high school. This course is intended to be studied alongside your high school subjects.
Access to Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering is your first step towards an exciting career in engineering. The course will develop your skills and knowledge of the engineering industry. You will learn both the theoretical and practical aspects of engineering that will support your studies going forward into the FA. This will give you the necessary academic and practical support that you may require to allow you to access the FA at your level of study.
You will attend College for two afternoons a week. In the year you will complete units at SCQF level 5 and this will be the building blocks for a successful continuation in the Engineering FA (in 5th and 6th year).
You will learn the access requirements to support your future year's studies when undertaking the FA.
Subjects will include:
- Mechanical Engineering Principles
- Electrical Engineering Principles
- Terminology and SI units used within engineering
- Working towards National 5 Mathematics or Physics

Progression And Articulation Routes
This course is aligned to Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering.
However on successful completion other Engineering courses may be considered in either electrical or mechanical disciplines.
On completion of the Engineering FA University access may be considered.
Career opportunities within electrical or mechanical pathways as various technician roles within the engineering or maintenance industry.
- Two afternoons will be required and this will be aligned to your SCP agreements
