This course is part of the Modern Apprenticeship route applicants will need to be employed as apprentices in the motor trade.
This Vocational Related Qualification (VRQ) provides the essential knowledge and skills for light vehicle technicians working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist businesses with a specialism in diagnostic principles.
The SCQF 7 programme involves studying both the theory and practical aspects, including:
- diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle engine faults heavy vehicle
- diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle chassis faults
- diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle transmission and driveline faults
- diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle auxiliary electrical fault
You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage environment.
Entry qualifications will be set by your employer but generally National 4 or above in English, Maths, Science or Technical subject are desirable. A consultation with the employer and Modern Apprenticeship advisor is essential.
How the course is assessed
The assessment of this VRQ is made up of 2 components:
- IMI set Practical Tasks
- IMI set Online Testing
Attend college for 8 one week blocks throughout the academic year (Sighthill Campus) or 1 day per week throughout the academic year (Midlothian Campus)
