Introduction to Engineering is designed to give you an insight into the engineering industry. The course is full-time and taught at Edinburgh College’s Midlothian campus over 18 weeks.
The course content is delivered at National 5 Level and will teach you theoretical and practical skills in subjects such as Mathematics, Communication, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
This course will teach you essential skills that will allow you to progress within the engineering industry. After completion of the course you can progress onto further study and specialised courses such as NC Higher Electrical Engineering or NC Engineering Systems which are both offered at Edinburgh College.
You will be taught by staff with extensive experience in the engineering industry. Edinburgh College works closely with many businesses and these connections can help you find work-placements to develop your practical and employability skills. These opportunities will be supported by your College lecturers but are not mandatory. Practical work experience with an employer allows you to gain knowledge of the engineering industry.

Course Cost And Funding Options
Rhys originally started at Edinburgh College as a full-time student and studied a range of subjects including electrical principles, maths, testing, measurement and wiring skills. On completing the Electrical Engineering NC Higher course, he successfully gained an apprenticeship through Trained Up and secured a position with Forth Ports PLC. As part of his training he returned to Edinburgh College to complete the practical element.
Moving on from his Modern Apprenticeship Rhys applied to continue his studies on a part-time basis at Edinburgh College with the support of his employer. He has recently completed his HND Electrical Engineering and successfully gained full-time employment.
