Course Overview

HND Marketing is an innovative course designed in partnership with industry professionals to ensure you are well-prepared to work in the sector. This qualification focuses on the use of digital and social media techniques in marketing communications which will involve you in Developing a Digital Advertising and Public Relations Campaign. You will gain a broad understanding in essential elements used in advertising and public relations which will broaden your scope for employment in the marketing sector. Upon completion of this course with the potential of progressing on to university level studying Marketing, Advertising and PR.

This course will be delivered using a blended learning model. You will have in-class theory bases lessons with some classes being delivered online. You should have access to a PC, Desktop Computer or tablet.

  • Advertising: Research & Planning a Local Campaign
  • International Marketing: An Introduction
  • Financial Accounting Statements: An Introduction
  • Law & the Communications Industry
  • Sales Planning

You will study the following subjects in year 2 of the course:

  • Consumer Behaviour and the Marketing Process
  • Marketing Research Applications
  • Professional Sales: Principles & Practice
  • Marketing Analysis & Planning
  • Integrated Marketing Communications
  • Marketing: Brand Management
  • Marketing: Graded Unit 2
  • Creative Industries: Enterprise Activity
  • Advertising & PR: Developing a Digital Advertising & PR Campaign
  • Project Management: An Introduction
  • Marketing Communications: Investigations
Entry Requirements
  • One Higher (preferably Higher English) together with three National 5 passes 
  • Or relevant National Qualifications or National Qualification Group Awards at SCQF Level 5 or 6 
  • Or appropriate groupings of National Units for example those focusing on marketing market research, advertising, media studies or general business studies 
  • Candidates will be considered on an individual basis
  • Relevant work experience
English Proficiency Requirements
  • IELTS 5.5
How the course is assessed
  • You will be continually assessed through written assignments, presentations  and project work throughout this course.

  • You may be invited to attend an interview to assess if this is the correct course for you 
Progression And Articulation Routes
  • Third year entry to Marketing Management BA Hons at Edinburgh Napier University 
  • Third year entry to Business Management with Marketing BA Hons at Edinburgh Napier University 
  • Second year entry to Business Management with Marketing BA Hons at Queen Margaret University 

Successful learners could also progress to qualifications from a range of professional bodies in this area e.g.: 


  • Professional PR Certificate (CIPR) 
  • Certificate and/or Diploma and/or Digital Diploma in Professional Marketing (CIM) 
  • Diploma in Digital Marketing (CAM) 
  • Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing (IDM) qualifications 
  • IPA qualifications
