Course Overview

Skills Boost for Health Care is an exciting new course which has been developed in partnership with NHS Lothian & Edinburgh College. We are working together to provide education & employment for people in Lothian region and beyond. NHS Lothian have several health care support worker roles (listed below) that you can now apply for. 


Please complete the college application form if you are interested in starting or re-starting your career as a health care support worker with NHS Lothian. Interviews will be arranged for you on either the 22nd, 23rd or 26th April 2021. You will be interviewed by a member of NHS and College staff. The interviews will be held on Microsoft teams (please let the college know if you have an issue with accessing Microsoft teams).


It is important you know that your interview is an interview for the college course and a healthcare support worker job with NHS Lothian.
If you are successful you must attend the three-week college course starting on Monday 17th May 2021 and upon successful completion of the course and all compulsory NHS checks such as satisfactory PVG with disclosure Scotland and Occupation Health report you will start your exciting new career w/c 7th of June. 


This course will be the start of your learning journey and your new job provides you with a pathway to a career in health care.

If you are in receipt of Universal credit your benefit will remain in place until you start your job.

•    Salary scale - BAND 2 £18,600 – £20,606
•    Please bring to your interview one form of photographic ID (passport, drivers’ licence, young scots card) 
•    The post is subject to NHS pre-employment checks as well as course completion.

Further information
On completion of the course you will be given the opportunity to book your covid vaccination with a selection of dates and venues available.
This course will also run in May, June and July, so if you have missed out on this application process or are unable to interview on the dates indicated above you will have another opportunity to apply.
The course is funded by the Young Persons Guarantee and Transitional Training Fund and is free for you to do.
