The purpose of this qualification is to enhance skills developed from the AAT Diploma in Accounting qualification, enabling you to maximise your opportunities in your current or new employment.
This course will be delivered by evening classes and a flexible online model. This can give you the flexibility to study at a convenient time and you will be able to contact your tutor for additional support if needed. You will be required to have access to IT to enable you to engage in the course e.g. laptop or a PC or Tablet.

What you will learn
The course comprises 3 mandatory units and 2 optional units chosen from the list below:
Mandatory Units:
- Applied Management Accounting
- Drafting and Interpreting Financial Statements
- Internal Systems and Controls

- Audit and Assurance
- Cash and Financial Management
- Credit and Debt Management
How the course is assessed
- These are assessed individually at an end of the unit through a computer-based assessment in the college.

One evening per week from 6 pm to 8.45 pm

Entry requirements
- AAT Diploma in Accounting would automatically lead to entry into the Professional Accounting Diploma.
- Alternatively, you may have completed a relevant degree or hold an HNC/D in Accounting.
- It is recommended that all applicants undertake the online AAT SkillCheck to ascertain their ability and the appropriate entry point. You can access this at the AAT website.

- The AAT is a professional qualification and you may not wish to pursue further professional qualifications.
- Once qualified, and having met AAT’s criteria, students can apply for full AAT membership, which will allow them to use the designatory letters MAAT after their name.
- However, holders of the AAT qualification may wish to pursue other professional qualifications in accounting.
- Some other professional accounting bodies may offer exemptions from their exams for holders of the AAT:
- ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)
- CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)
- CIFPA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy)
- ICAS (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland)
