Sound Production and Music Business are one of the driving forces of the growth of the creative industries with employment opportunities emerging across all areas of the sector, not only in music production but also digital media, broadcast, podcast production, gaming, moving image, live events, promotion, digital marketing and app and user experience design.
The Access to Sound Production and Music Business course is designed to provide access to our further and higher education courses where you will be able to further develop your knowledge, skills, practice, and networks before forging your own career in the industry. The course is project-based and assessed through the completion of practical coursework-based projects that involve producing creative products and learning more about the industries surrounding music and sound production.
The course structure is 50% on campus (where you will access our sector-leading studio and music technology facilities to work on your exciting practical projects), and 50% online where you will learn about the music and sound industries, promotion, marketing and networking.
What you will learn
The course is project-based and all assessments will take place through the completion of integrated creative projects combining sound production and music business. The skill and knowledge areas of the course are as follows:
- Operation of Digital Audio Workstations (Pro-Tools/Logic)
- MIDI sequencing
- Audio Editing
- Recording Techniques (studio-based)
- Sound Engineering and Production skills
- Digital Marketing and Promotion
- Introduction to the Music and Sound Industries
How the course is assessed
- Completion of projects
- Continuous assessment of coursework
Number of days per week
- 2.5 days structured at 50% on campus and 50% online
- Completion of some National 4/5 qualification including English and a creative subject
Information on Tests / Auditions / Interview Requirements
- No formal audition requirement.
- Upon completion and review of the personal statement, an online interview may be conducted by the course team.
