Electrical Engineering HNC is a day-release programme (a system of allowing employees days off work to go on educational courses) taught at Edinburgh College’s Midlothian campus. The course is designed for those interested in progressing in their career in the electrical engineering industry. You will learn many valuable skills needed to work in the electrical engineering field including knowledge in Production, Transmission, Distribution and Application of Electricity.
You will learn the knowledge required to become a technician or technical engineer in the electrical engineering industry. You will be taught by staff with extensive experience in the electrical engineering industry. You will also have access to Edinburgh College workshops where you will use up-to-date technology and equipment. The course is based in both the workshop and classroom ensuring you get a combination of practical and technical skills.

· Electrical Machine Principles
· Electrical Engineering: Graded Unit 1
· Information Technology: Applications Software 1
How the course is assessed
- Each unit will be assessed individually.
- There is a graded unit in year two that assesses the knowledge learnt in years 1 and 2, which is a 3 hour written examination, and you will be awarded an A, B or C grade
- All units within the course must be achieved in order to gain the award

- 1 day per week for 2 years
Entry requirements
- NC Higher Electrical Engineering or an appropriate group of National Units
- Direct entry to the course is also possible if you have a Higher in Mathematics and Physics or another science based course

- HND in Electrical Engineering.
- Degree-level studies in electrical engineering such as year two BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Heriot-Watt University
