Course overview
This one-year exciting course will enhance your existing Hairdressing skills and knowledge gained at Level 2, or the work you have already carried out in your salon.
Equipped with a more advanced skillset will enable you to develop your passion and creativity for hairdressing as you progress into a more technical and supervisory level within the industry.
Theory classes cover the knowledge required to complete all written work as part of your course. You will be required to have access to IT to enable you to complete parts of the course e.g. laptop, Pc, iPhone, Android phone, Tablet, Ipad.
Training at Edinburgh College will enhance your employability prospects as we have an exceptional standard of facilities and highly qualified lecturers. You will work in our salons or studios providing a realistic industry environment and gain essential practical experience working on paying clients with high-end product companies such as Wella which will enhance your employment prospects.

Placement information
All students must attend a mandatory work placement, or be employed in the industry prior to commencing the course one day per week (9-4 pm) for the full academic year
How the course is assessed
- All practical assessments are carried out on paying clients within our salons.
- The theory aspects of the course are carried out under exam conditions
Number of days per week
- 3 days per week (9:00 – 4:00 pm)
- 1 evening (4:30 pm – 8:00 pm)
- 1-day work placement per week
Entry requirements
- All applicants must hold a minimum recognised Hairdressing Level 2 qualification
- and already have secured a work placement or employment within the Hairdressing Industry
Information on Tests / Auditions / Interview Requirements
You will be given a date to attend campus for an information session and a face-to-face interview where you will be asked relevant questions relating to the course and your goals and experience
Thereafter successful applicants will be invited to attend the college to carry out a skills test and written colour case study: (you will require to bring a model with you for the skills test)
Skills Test
- A skills test will be required to be performed in a commercially viable time
Case Study
- This will be a basic colour case study scenario to test your knowledge
The formal interview has a scoring criterion based on - communication skills at the interview, along with the skills test and written case study.
