Course overview

The SQA Professional Development Award (PDA) in Community Involvement: An Introduction is a nationally recognised qualification at SCQF Level 6. It’s designed for individuals who are either working or volunteering in community settings, or those looking to begin a career in community learning and development. The course introduces key concepts, including the values and principles of community work, the impact of government policy, and how to support and engage with community groups effectively.

Learners will develop practical skills in facilitating group work and gain insight into how communities can be empowered and supported. The course is typically delivered part-time or online, making it accessible for those with other commitments. Upon completion, students may progress to further study, such as an HNC in Working with Communities, or apply their skills in roles within local authorities, charities, or grassroots organisations.

  • You’ll explore the core values and principles that guide community learning and development.
