Course overview
This is a weekly evening course dedicated to teaching the basics of SFX Makeup. Whether you have some previous experience or are totally new to the subject, you will be sure to pick up a variety of new skills and techniques alongside boosting your knowledge of the industry.
If you are interested in progressing to further study or finding out whether SFX makeup is the right area for you, come join our experienced lecturer and meet classmates with the same interests as you!
Based on the purpose-built make-up studios at Granton, we will meet between February and June to build portfolios, take photos and cover the different topics. There are no formal assessments on this course – participating and learning are the key focus alongside a photograph of each final injury/technique. Please note that anyone under the age of 18 must-have parental or guardian consent to start the course, as we will be looking at real-life photographic examples of injuries and post-mortem effects.
What you will learn
- SFX Make Up, including Burns, bruises, cuts, bullet wounds, stab wounds, black eyes, broken bones, lumps and disfigurements, death & decomp
- Students will be encouraged to make their work as realistic as possible, using a variety of industry-standard products.
How the course is assessed
- Participation and submission of a final photograph of each technique shown.
Number of days per week
- 1 day per week, Tuesdays, 5.30-8.30pm
Entry requirements
- There are no formal entry requirements but an interest in special effects makeup is essential
- Parental/Guardian consent under 18 years of age
