Course overview
Routes into Care and Childhood Practice is an engaging and nurturing course, that allows students to learn more about how to work with and support children, young people and adults, understand and support their needs, and identify different job roles and opportunities in the caring sector, from birth to older adulthood.
This course has been specially designed to support you in starting your journey towards further study and employment in:
- Childcare and Early Learning
- Social Services and Care
This is an SCQF Level 4 course (equivalent to National 4 qualifications).
If you successfully achieve this course you will be automatically offered a place on either a next steps Routes course, Childhood Practice or Health and Social Services, Level 4 or 5 courses in August.
You will be taught by highly qualified and experienced lecturers and have support from the team at Edinburgh College allowing you to progress to the next step of your learning journey while taking part in a wide range of engaging and interactive learning opportunities.

How the course is assessed
- We will use a range of interactive and engaging activities to assess your work.
- You will complete a project linked to the key areas of the course, showcasing your learning.
- You will keep a reflective log of your learning, well-being and experiences.

- 3 days per week.

- There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
- You should be enthusiastic and committed to working with and caring for others in a range of care services.
- Places are limited on this course, we will use your Personal statement to help our selection process.
- An individual meeting to discuss course suitability and any support requirements
