Graduation Class of 2023

We look forward to celebrating with our graduates on the new date of 2 November 2023.

The College has taken the necessary decision to reschedule the Class of 2023 graduation to our new date of 2 November 2023.

The change of date is due to resulting boycott which is part of ongoing national industrial action by members of the EIS-FELA (the trade union which represents college lecturers).

As part of this ongoing national industrial action, some lecturers at our College, and other colleges, are taking part in ‘Action Short of Strike’, which includes a resulting boycott. This means some results have not yet been put into our systems which means we have not been in a position to send out Graduation invitations.

We hope that, by delaying this year’s Graduation date, that as many results as possible will be completed to allow as many of our students as possible to graduate.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your course team.

Graduates – What to expect on the day

Graduating students should arrive at the McEwan Hall no later than 1 hour before the start of their ceremony.

Upon arrival at the McEwan Hall, graduating students should report to the Registration Area, via the Pavilion entrance.

At registration, all graduates will be given a seating card before proceeding to the gowning area and photography.

This seating card tells you where you will be seated in the auditorium, and it is important you do not change this as this is the order you will be called on stage to receive your award.

All graduating students must be robed and seated at least 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

Gown Collection

Your gown order must be collected on the day following registration from the robing area within the pavilion at the McEwan Hall.

Photography

Our photography provider, Marston Photography will be located in Edinburgh University Students Association, Potterrow, which is a short distance from McEwan Hall.

We suggest you go along to have your photographs taken before your ceremony if possible.

If you have not booked photography, you can still arrange to have this taken on the day.

The Ceremony

During the ceremony, attending graduating students will receive their scroll on stage with a photograph taken and then their certificate as they leave the stage.

Tickets

Attending graduates can purchase up to 4 guest tickets when registering and booking their gowning and photography with our appointed gowning provider.

Please note we do not expect any extra tickets for guests to become available.

Guest Seating

The Graduation ceremonies are ticketed events and only those with a valid ticket will be permitted into McEwan Hall.

All guest seating will be located on Levels 1 and 2 at the McEwan Hall.

If any guests have any special requirements that may make this difficult, please detail in the special requirements area when booking and we will accommodate your request.

Children can attend the ceremony, but you should note that it may not be suitable for very young children because of the content and length.

All children under 5 years old are free but a ticket must be booked as part of the allocation, please note on the special requirements area if you will be attending with young children.

All tickets once purchased are non-refundable.

Collection of Guest Tickets

Guest tickets can be collected in 2 ways:

  1. The graduate collects guest tickets when registering before the start of their ceremony.
  2. There is also the option to collect guest tickets only (graduates need to register on the day) at the reception areas of our campuses on the following dates:
  • 24 October – Granton Campus – 3.30pm-6pm
  • 25 October – Sighthill Campus – 3.30pm-6pm
  • 26 October – Milton Road Campus – 3.30pm-6pm

Collecting guest tickets in advance will help to make it a smoother experience for guests on the day.
