Access to Business and Marketing (SCQF Level 5) is designed for learners interested in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence required for further study and careers within the business and marketing sectors.
This course provides an introduction to modern business practices, marketing principles, digital marketing and entrepreneurship. Learners will develop essential communication, digital and study skills while gaining an understanding of how businesses operate in today's dynamic and competitive environment.
The course has been designed as part of Edinburgh College's Business and Marketing Pathway, providing a clear progression route to the NPA Business and Marketing (SCQF Level 6) course and, subsequently, HNC Business or HNC Marketing.
Throughout the course, learners will explore a range of business and marketing topics, including digital marketing, entrepreneurship, and the Scottish economy.
You will develop effective communication skills, enhance your creativity and build the confidence required to succeed in both business and educational settings.
This course provides a strong foundation for learners considering a future career in business, marketing, management, or entrepreneurship and supports progression to higher-level study.

How the course is assessed
Each subject will have different evidence requirements and assessment approaches.

- Open Book
- Exam – Closed-book controlled
- Project-based assessments
Number of days per week
- 2 days on campus plus 1 day self-study.
Entry requirements
- A minimum of three relevant National 4s (must include English and Maths/Numeracy)
Or
- Any relevant National Qualifications Group Award at SCQF level 4 or 5 (including Comms/Numeracy)
