Care Experienced Week 26 – support available for care experienced students at College

As a proud corporate parent, we are committed to supporting our care experienced students and ensuring they feel part of our college community.

If you are a care experienced student, you are not alone. Help and support is available throughout your time at college. If you haven’t yet told the College that you are care experienced, don’t worry, you can still reach out to the team.

Whether you would like to access support while you're studying or simply have an informal chat, we're here to help. You can also speak to staff in Student Services at any campus, who will direct you to the most appropriate person for support. Alternatively, you can email guidance@edinburghcollege.ac.uk and someone in the team will be able to assist.

As we come to the end of Care Experienced Week, we caught up with some of our care experienced students to learn more about their college experience and how they have been supported throughout their studies.

As a care experienced student, I have had help from the Care Experience contact in the Guidance team to complete my bursary application and providing guidance on any issues I need help with. The college provides a dedicated person who can be a point of contact for Care Experienced students needing help and advice with financial matters including budgeting or if you need equipment for college.
Student A:
My college experience as a care‑experienced student feels mostly like normal day‑to‑day college life. It’s good having access to people who can check in and help you keep on top of everyday stresses.
Student B:
The support I have been given by the STAY program has been excellent, there is so much I am entitled to that I never would have knew of if it wasn’t for the help of my support worker, and it’s very useful having someone that can give me a hand when I’m needing help.
Student C:
As a care experienced student, I have felt greatly supported by STAY support, Student Services and Learning Support staff. The support has guided me in adjusting and coping with different learning and social challenges. I now feel more organised and better at financial budgeting.
