Tell us about the Music Facilities at Edinburgh College
We have fully equipped rehearsal and performing spaces at both our Sighthill and Milton Road campuses. These facilities support a wide range of activity in various musical genres, from rock and pop to classical to traditional music. Whether you're honing your skills in a band or preparing for a solo performance, we offer the perfect environment to practice and perform.
Do Music courses offer university/employer links or workplace experiences for students?
We are committed to providing students with valuable real-world experiences. Our BA Music students get brilliant placement opportunities with organisations such as Tinderbox Collective, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and many more. All music students benefit from regular performing opportunities in our in-house spaces and superb venues across Edinburgh and beyond.
What are you most proud of about your school and courses?
We offer specialist instrumental and vocal tuition for music students, regular coaching for band and ensemble playing, and frequent performing and recording opportunities both inside and outside the college. Our music video series ‘The Music Box Sessions’ was highly commended at the College Development Network Awards 2023, and our community music programme ‘EC Sessions’ won the Benefitting Society Award at the Green Gown Awards in 2024.
Our varied curriculum also gives students great experience in areas including music theory, music business, promotion, composition and songwriting, instrumental teaching, event management, and writing about music. This comprehensive approach ensures students are well-prepared for progression, within Edinburgh College, to other HE institutions, or to diverse careers in the music industry.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us about?
Edinburgh College provides a range of qualifications to suit different educational journeys. Students can gain valuable qualifications whether they complete one, two, three, or more years at college. Options include our recently added UAL diplomas, long-established HNCs and HNDs, and our unique one-year BA Honours top-up degree. This flexibility allows students to tailor their education to their personal and professional goals.
