Exciting career opportunities ahead for Pauline as she discovers new passion while studying at College
While studying HND Make-up Artistry at the College’s Granton Campus this year, Pauline Valente discovered a passion for wig styling, and now hopes to turn this passion into a career, as she nears the completion of her course.
We recently caught up with Pauline to find out more about her experience at College:
What do you enjoy about your course?
I’ve enjoyed the whole course, there’s so much variety. What I’ve found I’m really good at is working with wigs, which I’ve never really touched before. We’ve also down body painting, prosthetics which I enjoyed doing as well. Doing lots of different kinds of makeup, fashion shoots, and character shoots – I just love doing everything really. You learn so much.
How have you enjoyed your College experience overall?
It’s been a positive experience. I enjoyed coming in, meeting everyone, I’m the eldest in my group, but everyone has been so lovely and it’s been so nice meeting up with new people.
Do you feel supported by your lecturers?
Yes, anytime I needed support or had a question I would speak to my tutor and we would just have a chat about things.
Would you recommend this course to someone thinking about coming to College?
I would definitely recommend it! If you are creative, like doing make up for film, TV, and theatre, but you don’t want to be in front of the screen, and you like being in the background, it would be perfect for you. You’re the one creating all the characters to go out there and perform.
What’s been the highlight of your time at College?
My favourite part has definitely been using wigs. I’ve researched it all and I’m doing some online courses outside the college as well to get more of a broader knowledge on how to style using the wigs. We learn it in college and have workshops too, but because I want to specialise in that, I’ve been doing a bit extra on top of my coursework.
What are you doing after College?
I’ve been accepted at York University so I will be starting there later this year. I have a family so I will be going down on the Monday for classes and then back up on the Tuesday evening – the course is really flexible. After that, I’m looking to get into wig making and wig styling.
