Pension Schemes

Edinburgh College have two excellent pension schemes, Lothian Pension Fund (LPF) and the Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) as well as saving and borrowing options through Capital Credit Union available to non-teaching and teaching staff respectively. Employees can also access a range of discounts.

Pre-retirement Course through Age Scotland

Staff thinking about retirement have access to the Planning for your Future pre-retirement course provided by Age Scotland. Their one day course (or spread over two days when delivered online) covers managing the change process, occupying your time in retirement, financial planning, legal matters, and health and wellbeing in later life.

Retail Discounts

The Edenred mylifestyle portal, available on the Staff Benefits tile on the intranet gallery, gives employees access to:

Savings and Borrowing Schemes

Through the Capital Credit Union staff can save directly from their salary and access ethical financial services with
a credit union membership.

Bike to Work Scheme

Staff can purchase a tax free bike, along with any related equipment (e.g. lights, helmet, waterproofs, reflective clothing, locks, and luggage carriers) via Cycle Solutions. The college then leases the bike to staff via a salary sacrifice scheme over a 12 month period.

Software and IT Equipment

College employees are entitled to discounts on some Apple products including MacBooks, iPads and other Apple accessories.

TOTUM Card (Student Discount Card)

College employees are eligible to buy a TOTUM Card online at totum.com. Cards cost £14.99 and will give cardholders access to thousands of discounts online and in person. There is also a free version of the card called TOTUM Lite, which will provide cardholders with access to some of the discounts with no up-front cost.

Blackwell’s - South Bridge

Edinburgh College staff with a valid staff ID card will receive a 10% discount at Blackwell’s bookshop on personal purchases of books, music and stationery (terms and conditions apply) either in store or reserving online for store pick up.

Macintyres Wholesale Jewellers, Frederick Street

Edinburgh College staff receive free membership to Macintyres Wholesale Jewellers and can save up to 50% of the RRP on high- quality jewellery.

Costco

As educators, all Edinburgh College employees are entitled to join the Costco membership scheme. If you are interested in joining the membership scheme, all you need to do is visit the Costco warehouse located at Straiton (next to Ikea) with your staff ID card and a photo ID (driving license or passport). It will only take 5 minutes for you to join and you could shop on the day.

Mortgage Advice Bureau - Free Broker Service

Mortgage Advice Bureau are delighted to offer a free broker service to all Edinburgh College staff. They will take care of everything from explaining all your options and helping you select the right mortgage, to choosing the most suitable protection for you and your family, and handling the whole application process. With access to 12,000 mortgages MAB are here to help ensure the process is as simple as can be. Whether you’re moving, buying for the first time or simply looking to review, let them find the right mortgage for you.

Gym Facilities

Milton Road

The Club, gym and leisure facility, is open throughout the week and weekends. Facilities include a heated swimming pool, jacuzzi, Steam room, fully equipped gym and studio with classes as part of your membership

Discounted rates and memberships are available to college staff.

Sighthill and Granton
Our gyms have a great range of equipment including fixed and free weights as well as running and rowing machines. Staff can join at a discounted rate.

World of Football

World of Football on Marine Drive (near Granton Campus) is a newly built football facility including both indoor and outdoor 3G turf pitches. Staff are entitled to 25% off pitch hire, any pitch, at any time.

Employee Assistance Programme

MCL Medics EAP is a free and confidential counselling support service available to all employees and their families to help them with any problem they may be facing. It is completely confidential and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.

Occupational Health Department

The college has an Occupational Health department that focuses on the physical and mental wellbeing of employees in the workplace. The department consists of the following health professionals: nurse, doctor and physiotherapist. All Occupational Health referrals are to be made through line manager, and on an appointment basis.

Flexible Working

The college understands that employees may wish to work more flexibly at some time in their lives. All employees with
at least 26 weeks’ continuous service have the statutory right to apply for flexible working. The college encourages employees to have a work/life balance, to provide a more supportive, effective and happy workplace.

Hair and Beauty Salons, Barbershop

Our training academies allow students to practise and gain the valuable skills needed for working in the hair and beauty industry. Partnering with industry experts Elemis, Wella and Dermalogica, staff can expect a premium service for a fraction of the cost.

Restaurants

eh15 at Milton Road and The Apprentice at Granton are open Tuesday to Friday during term time and are where cookery and hospitality students learn their craft. Serving to the general public, students cook and serve under the guidance of trained professionals ensuring that they are ready to work in some of the top restaurants and catering venues in the country. Staff are entitled to various discounts.

Car Parking

Staff are entitled to apply for a parking permit which permits them to park in any of the Edinburgh College campus carparks for free.

Car and Van Hire

All employees are entitled to a 20% discount off car and van hire with Arnold Clark.

Electric Cars

Staff are entitled to use the electric cars to travel between campuses and on college business.

Liftshare

Liftshare is a social enterprise providing a free carpooling service for staff. By signing up for the service employees can easily find colleagues who are travelling in the same direction as them, and contact them to arrange to share a lift. This will save staff money, reduce congestion in the car parks, and provide more social opportunities. It is entirely free to use.

Cycling, running or walking to work. Bike lock-up, Showers and Lockers

Secure bike lock-up areas are available at each campus and are accessible on application at our reception desks, where you will be given a key or a 6-digit code, depending on the campus. Showers are available at each campus and some lockers are available on an application basis at Sighthill, Granton and Milton Road campuses.

Course Waivers

Staff can enrol on Edinburgh College programmes of study and have their fee waived if the programme is relevant to their role. Places are subject to line manager approval and infill spaces being available, i.e. that staff are not taking the place of a standard paying student.

Learning Resource Centres (LRCs)

All college employees are automatically registered with the LRCs (libraries) across the four college campuses. Staff members can borrow books, DVDs, films and journals without incurring fines. The LRCs are part of the Edinburgh Library Passport Scheme. The passport allows access to over 20 library services in the Edinburgh area. Passports are issued from the LRCs main service desks.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn is a great place to connect but also for development. At Edinburgh College, staff have full access to courses and training on LinkedIn Learning.
