Clearing FAQs

I have a conditional offer. I got the exam results I needed, when will I receive a response from the College?

Well done on passing your exams. Our Student Records team is currently checking applications and confirming SQA results to convert offers into unconditional. Please keep an eye on your emails over the next couple of days as an unconditional offer will be on its way to you.

I did not meet my conditions, what should I do?

We understand you may be disappointed with your exam results, try not to worry as there are other options open to you. Our Student Records team will try and find you a suitable alternative course within the academic area. If you have not received an offer of a place by Wednesday 6 August, please attend our Clearing event on Thursday 7 August at Sighthill Campus between 10.30am and 2pm to discuss your options with our curriculum team.

I have an offer of a place. I would like to change to a different course, what should I do?

We would encourage you to attend our Clearing event to meet with the curriculum team. If places are available on the other course and you meet the conditions and are offered a place, our Student Records team will change the application over for you.

I have an offer of a place at university, how do I cancel my conditional offer for a college course?

Congratulations on the university offer.  Please email your details to our Admissions team via courseapps@edinburghcollege.ac.uk including your name, DOB and application reference number. We will then be able to cancel the application on your behalf.

There’s been a change in my circumstances and I need to withdraw my application, what should I do?

I’ve decided to return to school for another year, can I defer my offer to next year?

We are unable to defer places over to a new academic year.  Please email the Admissions team on courseapps@edinburghcollege.ac.uk  to request your application is withdrawn, you will have the opportunity to apply for our August 2026 intake from mid-January.

I applied for a course three weeks ago and I’ve not received an update, what should I do?

During the summer applications are not processed as quickly as during term time. The delay could be due to the course you’ve applied for requiring an interview before an offer can be confirmed.  Our curriculum managers are currently reviewing applications submitted from the end of June.  If you don’t receive an update on your application before Thursday 7 August please attend the Clearing event.

I would like to apply for a course, can you confirm what places are still available?

Course pages which have the option to ‘Apply now’ in the top right-hand corner are still open for applications. Applications are accepted on an oversubscribed basis and submitted applications go through the same recruitment process as applications submitted throughout the year.  At this time, there’s no guarantee of securing a place.  If possible, we would encourage you to attend the Clearing event where you can speak to the curriculum team from the course of interest before applying on the day. Course pages which have the option to ‘Enquire now’ in the top right-hand corner are currently closed for applications.

I am unable to attend the Clearing event but still interested in applying what should I do?

We have a range of courses available on our website which are still accepting applications. Course pages which have the option to ‘Apply now’ in the top right-hand corner are still open for applications. Applications are accepted on an oversubscribed basis and submitted applications go through the same recruitment process as applications submitted throughout the year.  At this time there’s no guarantee of securing a place.  Your application will be reviewed by the curriculum team and you will receive email confirmation from the Admissions team on the outcome of your application.
