Course overview

The Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Construction Skills is for pupils in the Senior Phase and will be completed over the year in partnership with Edinburgh College and Contractors working in the Local Area.

There are 2 main parts of the FA: candidates must complete the Level 5 Construction Skills (more information can be found on our website) and complete the Work-Based Challenge, which is hosted by the Contractors. The combination of both elements in this course creates the FA, rather than Level 5 Construction Skills alone.

What you will learn

  • A series of trade disciplines, which may include the following, is targeted specifically to your school and local area and to what you want your work bake challenge to look like.
  • We aim to complete a final project which can be donated to the local community, i.e., benches for a local care home or mud kitchens for a local nursery. Which the pupils will decide in partnership with the contractor. We tailor the course to the project's requirements.
  • Joinery, Brickwork, Decorating, and External render could be areas that we focus on to complete the project, along with many more.
