Course overview
This course is for school pupils currently on our S3 Construction Level 4, moving into S4, and looking to continue on our construction pathway.
We continue on this course with a variety of trade disciplines, although the challenges set at this level are more aligned with what would be expected of a tradesperson on a building site and their current practices.
Successful completion will gain the SQA Level 5 Construction Skills qualification.

- Applying Lightweight Plaster: An Introduction
- One Brick Walling: An Introduction or Blockwork: An Introduction
- Develop Construction Carpentry Skills
- Decorating - Using Spray, Decal and Sign writing
- Electrical: An introduction
Placement information
- These level 5 courses are hosted either on a Campus relevant to each Local Authority or at a suitable Locality Base. Pupils should check with the Edinburgh College Teaching Staff to confirm where they should be applying.
How the course is assessed
- Continuous Assessment through Practical work relevant to each trade, followed by knowledge-based paper Assessments.
Number of days per week
- 5 hours per week, which days and times will differ for each group.
Entry requirements
- Successful completion of our Edinburgh College NPA Construction Crafts Level 4.
- Satisfactory attendance on the above course as well as demonstrating suitable behaviours.
