What is Clearing?
Clearing is the process through which you can apply to courses that still have available places.
If a course at college still has spots available, this is another opportunity for you to apply to study.
Reasons you might apply to a course through clearing
- The original application deadline has passed, and you have decided you want to apply to study starting in 2026
- You didn’t meet the entry requirements for the course you originally applied for
- You didn’t receive any offers after the first application deadline
- You have changed your mind about the course you were planning to study
How does clearing work?
Clearing works in a few different ways, depending on your situation. If you’ve not yet applied for a course, haven’t met your entry requirements, or are looking to switch from one Edinburgh College course to another through clearing, you should come along to our Exam Results Drop in Session at Sighthill Campus on Thursday 6 August.

When does clearing open?
Clearing officially opens on Tuesday 4 August 2026. After this, you can apply for a course through clearing at Edinburgh College.

If you're interested in applying for a course at Edinburgh College through clearing, please check our course pages for information on courses with places still available and apply online, if you haven't applied for a course already. You can also come along to our Exam Results Drop in Session, or call our Clearing Phone Line on 0131 297 8300 where you can discuss your application with a member of our team.
