National recognition for Edinburgh College’s young sporting stars

A number of students from across Edinburgh College are celebrating call-ups to represent Scotland’s national sides in their respective sports.

A proud moment for the students, their families and the College, it’s an amazing achievement that they should all be delighted by.

The following students are set to feature for Scotland on the international stage:

  • Alina Prokopenko (HNC Sports Coaching and Developing Sport) – Selected for Scotland U21 female rugby squad for Six Nations Series
  • Talei Tawake (HNC Sports Coaching and Developing Sport) – Selected for Scotland U21 female rugby squad for Six Nations Series
  • Becks Whitehead (HNC Sports Coaching and Developing Sport) – Selected for Scotland U18 female rugby squad for Six Nations Festival
  • Kyle Reid (Developing Sporting Performance) – Selected for Scotland Aspiring Boys Hockey squad for Six Nations Competition
  • Henno Bowe (HNC Developing Sports Performance) – Selected for Scotland U19 rugby squad for friendly series with Italy U19s

Jamie Parker, Sport & Fitness Lecturer, says it’s a well-earned reward for all of the student’s hard work:

“It’s incredible to see so many of our students earn call-ups to represent Scotland at the highest level for their age groups. It takes real dedication and commitment to make it that far, all while keeping on top of their vital College studies. We’d like to offer them a huge congratulations, and wish them the best of luck for out on the field.”

It comes on the back of sporting success elsewhere in the College, with 17-year-old Developing Sporting Performance student Maia Ewing recently scooping a silver medal at the Karate One - Youth League World Event in Zimbabwe.
