Photography student Francisco Javier Sanchez Garcia recognised at Prize Giving
Originally from Malaga, Spain, 49-year-old Francisco Javier Sanchez Garcia came to Edinburgh College to follow his passion for photography, where he has now been awarded the Foundation Photography Award at this year’s Prize Giving.
Previously working as a tour guide for a travel agency in Scotland, Francisco’s decision to study at the College is his first step towards achieving his dream career. We caught up with the former tour guide to find out more about his Edinburgh College experience.
How do you feel about being recognised at Prize Giving?
Both surprised and grateful.
What made you choose Edinburgh College for your studies?
After discovering Edinburgh College's outstanding level of photography, courses, and facilities, I decided to go after my passion.
What has been the best thing so far about studying at Edinburgh College? Any highlights?
The real photography includes research, planning, studio work, post-processing, editing, and printing.
If you could give one piece of advice to a student starting at the college now, what would it be? Prioritise your time and complete the assignments up until you achieve your goals.
What are your plans for the future? Are you going on to further study after college or into employment? What is your end goal?
My aspiration is to get to the HND level and become a professional photographer.
Do you have any messages for the lecturers?
I will always be grateful to Raymond and Susan as well as Paul and Roslyn for their commitment, passion, and support.
Looking back, is there anything you would do differently?
Due to my busy schedule (studying, working, and taking care of a family), I couldn’t actually do anything different!
What are you most proud of that you have achieved while studying at Edinburgh College?
I was able to photograph various people, both known and unknown, who acted as incredible models for me and for themselves.
