Soft Tissue Therapy students work with charities to deliver massages at Edinburgh Marathon Festival

22 HNC Soft Tissue Therapy students have continued a 10-year-long relationship with the Edinburgh Marathon Festival by closely collaborating with charities to give massages to runners raising money for good causes.

This past weekend, tens of thousands of runners set out from the capital to test themselves over a variety of different distances, ranging from 5k all the way up to a full marathon. Our students were on hand at the finish-line on Sunday, to try and soothe the aches and pains of some of the runners who had raised money for charity.

Setting up shop in the charity village at the finish line in Musselburgh, the group linked up with 13 charities to massage runners running the relay, half marathon and marathon on behalf of the organisations, which included Alzheimers’ Scotland, Diabetes UK, the MS Society and CRUK among others.

The College has enjoyed a decade-long partnership with the EMF, and Leisa Poole, Sports & Fitness lecturer, says it’s brilliant to see it go from strength to strength:

“It’s really amazing to see the students volunteering their time to support all the runners who are raising funds for such great causes. It’s something we do every year, and it’s such a fantastic opportunity for our students to put what they’ve been learning into practice, and get some real world experience all while doing their bit for charity. We’d like to say a huge well done to everyone involved, and are looking forward to next year already!”
