Engineering Systems NC Level 6 is an entry-level course that will enhance your knowledge and understanding of Mechanical and Electrical engineering principles. You will study units such as Electrical Principles, Computer Aided Design, Engineering Systems and Mathematics, which, upon completion, will allow you direct progression onto our HNC Engineering Systems course. This course is the first step toward your future career in the engineering industry.
This full-time course is based at our Midlothian campus and taught by instructors with industry experience, utilising the latest industry technologies. You will be taught in Edinburgh College classrooms and workshops, where you will gain essential and hands-on experience in the engineering sector. This course is designed to meet the needs of employers and further education institutions.

How the course is assessed
- You will be assessed on each unit.
- All units within the course must be achieved to gain the full award.
Number of days per week
- You will complete 36 weeks of study and attend college 3 days per week.
- Lessons will normally be from 9 AM to 4.30 PM each day.
- You must attend all timetabled lessons to have at least a 90% attendance rate, although this can be revisited if you have a valid reason and keep up to date with your studies.
Entry requirements
- Mathematics at National 5 (if you have not studied Maths for some time, you might benefit from taking a core maths unit before joining the course).
- English at National 5.
English Proficiency Requirements
Minimum requirement is IELTS 5.5Progression and Articulation Routes
- Progression onto HNC Engineering Systems or Mechanical Engineering.
