Course overview

This course will introduce learners to trauma, exploring current definitions and concepts, and contributing factors that may be experienced by those affected by trauma. This course is designed for practitioners currently working with children and/or young people and the focus will be childhood practice settings.

The main aim of this PDA is to provide a qualification that enables learners to gain knowledge and understanding of trauma and its possible causes. It also explores the impact of trauma on the individual and the importance of being an informed practitioner in supporting individuals affected by trauma.

The qualification also aims to enable the learner to achieve an understanding not only of therapeutic approaches but also of organisational approaches to trauma.

The course fee is £625, and it's possible to use the SAAS Part Time Fee Grant towards this if you meet the eligibility criteria Part-time Funding Guide - SAAS

What you will learn

  • This qualification will investigate the factors leading to childhood trauma and the impact that this may have on development and the ability to build and sustain relationships.
  • It will explore therapeutic approaches and interventions for individuals affected by trauma and the importance of self-care and personal responsibility for those not only affected by trauma but for the care providers too.
  • The qualification also looks at organisational approaches to trauma and the underpinning values and principles required for organisations to implement trauma-informed practices and to support those who have experienced significant trauma.
