Course overview

Phase One of the "Routes into Education" program is designed to introduce you to various vocational subjects, helping you make informed decisions about your future educational paths.

Over 18 weeks, you will engage in a range of activities and units aimed at developing essential skills such as customer service, enterprise, and digital literacy. The program includes college experience days at Milton Road and Sighthill campuses, where you can explore fields like Health and Beauty, Music and Sound Production, and Automotive Engineering.

This phase aims to set realistic expectations about industry demands and standards, preparing you for potential progression to Level 4 courses.

What you will learn

  • Customer Service Skills: Develop essential customer service techniques and understand the importance of effective communication in various service environments.
  • Guidance and Tutorial: Receive personalised guidance and support to help navigate the course and future educational or career choices.
  • Enterprise: Learn the basics of entrepreneurship, including idea generation, business planning, and the fundamentals of running a small business.
  • College Experience: Participate in hands-on activities across different vocational subjects to gain practical insights and experience.
  • Physical Activity for Mental Health and Wellbeing: Understand the benefits of physical activity on mental health and learn strategies to incorporate physical wellness into daily life.
  • Supportive College Course Contact: Access additional support and resources to enhance learning and personal development.
  • Exploring Future Steps: Explore potential career paths and educational opportunities, and develop a plan for future steps.
  • Citizenship: Develop an understanding of civic responsibilities, community engagement, and the importance of active citizenship.
  • Digital Skills and Social Media Safety: Gain essential digital literacy skills and learn how to navigate social media safely and responsibly.
  • These units are designed to provide a comprehensive foundation of skills and knowledge, preparing students for further education or entry into vocational courses.

Entry requirements

  • You should be able to work at SCQF level 3 or 4 to complete the work on this course.

Information on Tests / Auditions / Interview Requirements

  • You will attend an interview session to assess your suitability for this course.

Progression and Articulation Routes

  • Completing this course will enable you to progress onto Phase Two of the Routes into Education Programme in January.
