College Takes Joseph a Step Closer to a Civil Engineering Degree
Thirty-year-old Borderer Joseph Wade has taken a step closer to his desired Civil Engineering degree after 10 years away from education, thanks to a HND programme delivered by Edinburgh College.
Joseph, who now lives in Edinburgh, joined the College in 2017, enrolling on an access course before progressing to BEng (HND) Civil Engineering. He recently graduated at a lavish ceremony held at the city’s McEwan Hall where he was presented with the Chair’s Award for Academic Excellence for Built Environment.
Joseph said: “It was challenging returning to study following 10 years away from education. I had to get myself back up to speed, but the College helped with this in offering the access course which allowed me to achieve my goals.
“I have gained a great amount of new knowledge and skills from my studies that will help me when completing my education and in the work place. I have met a lot of people who have made the experience great.”
Now he has left the College, Joseph is carrying on his degree education at Heriot-Watt University while continuing working as a placement engineer with Morrison Construction, gaining valuable work experience.
