Connal Over the Moon to Be Recognised at Prize Giving 2020
Twenty-one-year-old Connal Fullarton from Glenrothes has found his passion working in the construction industry and is over the moon to be accepting the Apprentice of the Year for Highways award at this year’s Prize Giving.
We caught up with Connal to find out more about his College experience.
“I am over the moon to be accepting this award. It’s something I never expected and I’m extremely proud of myself.
I have worked in few jobs over the past five years such as roofing, mechanics, at a builders’ merchants and finally groundworks which is what I’m doing now and hope to be doing for the rest of my career. I started at Raeburn Construction two years ago as a trainee groundworker and was lucky enough to get a place at College last year.
It’s hard to pinpoint one highlight from my time at College because the whole course was enjoyable. It was great to get a chance to practice skills learned on site in an environment that isn’t as fast paced.
Whenever I faced a challenge, I knew I could speak to any of my colleagues, managers, office workers or directors who would all be more than willing to help in any way they could.
The best piece of advice I could give to anyone who is thinking about starting at College is to act like a sponge and soak up as much information as you can, and to not give up when it gets difficult.
My career goal is to go into the management side of the industry and with some hard work and dedication I feel it’s something I will be able to achieve.”
