WorldSkills UK Live – Meet the Competitor – Scott Allan

Twenty-four-year-old Scott Allan hopes he can reach new heights this weekend as he prepares to compete against the UK’s top roofing students.

Roof Tiling and Slating adult apprentice Scott is competing at WorldSkills UK Live this week, a national competition designed to test the skills and aptitude of students across the country in their respective disciplines.

Scott, from Dalkeith in Midlothian, secured his place at the UK’s largest skills competition after being awarded a certificate of distinction in a regional heat held in Glasgow in May this year.

WorldSkills UK Live is held annually at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

Scott, who serves his apprenticeship with the Terry Healy Group, said: “I’m really looking forward to going to Birmingham to compete in this major competition. Getting a certificate of distinction in the regional heat was amazing, now I want to do as well as I can in the big one.

“I’m feeling quite confident as I have been coming into College to practice as much as I can and my lecturer and my employer have been really supportive all the way through the process. Fingers crossed I can do well.”

Scott will take on a series of tiling and cement work challenges on Thursday and Friday (21 and 22 November) against qualifier winners from across the UK. An awards ceremony takes place on Saturday (23 November) where the top three competitors will be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

Good luck, Scott!
