EC Cares – Wellbeing Wednesday

Throughout November, we’ll be promoting Wellbeing Wednesday as part of our EC Cares campaign to encourage staff and students across our college community to take time each week to do something to look after your wellbeing.

Across the month, we’ll share information on how exercise can help keep you fit and improve your physical and mental wellbeing, tips for getting outside to experience nature, the benefits of practicing meditation or yoga, or finding a quiet place to sit and read a good book.

Keep an eye out across our channels each Wednesday this month to find out more.

How exercise can keep you fit and improve your wellbeing

Exercise has been shown to have a positive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing, helping to keep us fit and healthy, while also lifting our mood and improving our mental health.

It’s more important than ever to look after our wellbeing and getting some exercise can go a long way to putting that spring back in our step. No matter how big or small making time to take part in some physical activity each week is really important, whether that be taking up a new sport, visiting the gym or going for a walk, anything you do will help make a difference.

This week, we are challenging you to so some physical exercise to see how it can help keep you fit and improve your mental health and wellbeing.

Here’s some ideas on what you can do:

  • Join a sports team
  • Go for a walk with a friend
  • Get outside for a 20 min run
  • Lift weights to increase strength
  • Grab your helmet and go for a cycle

Still struggling for ideas?

If you’re still struggling for ideas on what to do, don’t worry we have you covered.

Sport and Fitness lecturer Scott Hislen has created a number of exercise videos that you can do from home that will help to keep you fit and boost your mental health and wellbeing:
