Edinburgh College Launches New Gender-Based Violence Online Resource for Students

Edinburgh College has launched a new online resource for students which aims to raise awareness of gender-based violence (GBV), the impact it has on victims and what we can all do to help stop it.

The Equally Safe in Colleges and Universities introductory course has been created by Rape Crisis Scotland and gives students an insight into issues surrounding GBV, tests their knowledge, reinforces the importance of consent and healthy relationships and gives advice on what more can be done to help tackle these issues.

Experiencing any form of GBV can have a significant impact and some students may struggle to participate at college or university, or may even feel that like they have to leave.

Students have the right to feel safe and supported at college and university. Equally Safe in Colleges and Universities is a national approach taken by higher and further education institutions across Scotland working in partnership to tackle GBV on campus and ensure students have that right.

Edinburgh College Safeguarding team leader Kara Tait said: "GBV is an important issue to talk about and raise awareness of. This new online resource allows students to increase their awareness of what GBV is as well as providing useful information and guidance on healthy relationships and support available. I am hoping that students will find it an engaging and helpful learning resource."
