Course overview

We run two HNC's in Television at the College: HNC Television and Film with Multicamera Operations and HNC Television and Film.

Both cover a similar range of knowledge and skills and will equip you for a future in Television.

HNC in Television and Film with Multicamera Operation will cover single-camera production for television, film and other screen platforms, and multi-camera studio production. The course will give you an essential grounding in the knowledge and skills required to work in these fields, teach you workflow, process and procedure, and you will learn about different job roles in the industry and how they interact with one another. You will learn about narrative, formats and techniques for audience engagement.

How the course is assessed

  • For production projects, you are assessed on the different production activities and documentation you complete across each of the stages of production
  • Technical skills are assessed by observation of how they are applied during productions
  • Analysis is assessed by written and presentation tasks.
  • Your professional behaviours also inform your grade

Number of days per week

  • Classes on three days a week plus additional self-directed study required which might involve working at home, on location or in the studio on campus.

Entry requirements

  • Two Highers at Grade B or above in a relevant subject or an SCQF Level 6 / UAL Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a suitable subject.
  • Nat 5 Maths and English at B grade.
  • Relevant experience will also be considered.

  • Applicants will be invited to interview and should bring samples of work and/or be prepared to talk about why they are interested in and suitable for this course.
