Course overview

This course is designed for pupils with additional support needs or learning barriers who are considering attending college after completing their secondary education.

The course is part-time and runs for 18 weeks. It is suitable for pupils working at SCQF levels 3 to 4 and is available at either Milton Road or Sighthill campuses (Tuesday and Thursday afternoons).

This will provide pupils with a positive transition experience and enable staff to assess their suitability for a college course after they leave school.

What you will learn

A wide range of practical and classroom-based subject areas is covered. This provides pupils with a broad experience of the college environment, a general taste of student life, and the topics they would learn about in our full-time courses.

Pupils will work in groups and learn new ways of engaging with others, benefiting from a positive transition from school to college. Topics covered include:

  • Diversity and international issues
  • Teambuilding and group work
  • Digital skills
  • Environmental issues
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Social skills
  • Topical subjects

How the course is assessed

  • There are no formal assessments.

Number of days per week

  • 2 half days per week.

Entry requirements

  • No formal qualifications are required. 
  • Students who attend these courses typically come from either a mainstream school where they receive some support or from a special school or provision.

  • The school staff supports applications.

Once they have left school, students completing this course may progress to one of our full-time, Routes into Education or Employment courses, as follows:
