Course overview

The mentoring award is an SQA Qualification that will teach you the theory behind mentoring as well as giving you the practical skills to become a mentor.

What you will learn

The award is a level 4 qualification that is made up of 2 units: ‘Mentoring: An Introduction’ and ‘Mentoring in Practice’. Although both units can be achieved in isolation, both units need to be successfully completed in order to achieve the full award.

This award will be taught in the Granton Campus of Edinburgh College 3 hours a week for one semester (18 weeks) and will include some theory, along with a variety of activites and opportunities for discussion. In addition, you will get experience in both the role of the mentor and the mentee. You will be given a pack with all the outcomes you need to pass at the beginning of the course. Each week we will go through the information and ‘bring it to life’ so that you become a confident and effective mentor.
