Course overview

Phase 2 of the Routes into Education programme builds on the foundation laid in Phase 1, supporting learners as they prepare for further study. This phase focuses on developing essential academic and personal skills, including communication, numeracy, wellbeing, and future planning.

Students do not need to have completed Phase 1 to enrol in Phase 2. The course is open to anyone ready to strengthen their skills and confidence for progression into entry-level education.

In a supportive, practical learning environment, students will explore topics that foster self-awareness, resilience, and readiness for the next stage of their educational journey.

On the Routes into Education – Phase 2 course, you'll explore a range of practical and personal development topics designed to help you feel confident and prepared for further study. Here's what you'll learn:

  • Communication

You'll build your skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing—helping you express yourself clearly in everyday life and academic settings.

  • Life Skills Numeracy

This unit focuses on practical maths for daily living, such as budgeting, measuring, and problem-solving.

  • Health and Wellbeing

You'll learn about nutrition, mental health, and lifestyle choices that support your overall wellbeing.

  • College Experience

Get familiar with college life through guided activities and supportive contact, helping you settle in and feel at home in a learning environment.

  • Relationships and Personal Development

Explore how to build healthy relationships, understand yourself better, and develop key social skills.

Placement information

  • There is no placement element to this course. 

How the course is assessed

  • Assessment for the course is conducted through continuous, project-based work. Learners will complete a variety of practical tasks and assignments designed to demonstrate their understanding and application of key skills developed throughout the programme.
  • There are no formal examinations associated with this course. This approach allows learners to engage with the material in a supportive and flexible environment, encouraging personal growth and academic progress without the pressure of timed assessments.

Entry requirements

  • There are no formal entry requirements for Routes into Education - Phase 2.
  • The course is open to all learners who are ready to develop their skills and prepare for further study.
  • Prior completion of Phase 1 is not necessary, and applicants from a variety of educational backgrounds are welcome.

  • You will attend a short information session to assess your suitability for the course.
