Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Web Development is an associate degree program offering dual enrolment at Napier University. On completion, there is a direct route to a place in the third year of Edinburgh Napier University’s Web Development course.

This course aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a full-stack web developer, prepared to work in web development and the broader digital technology sector. You will be taught by industry-experienced College lecturers and learn a diverse range of skills and knowledge in; Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript, App Development (using Frameworks such as React), Structured Query Language (SQL), Content Management Systems (CMS), Web Graphics, User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design, PHP (Hypertext Pre-processor), Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) principles and Digital and Social Media Marketing.
This course provides a current qualification that reflects recent developments in the web design and development sector. This is a hands-on and practical course that will enhance your employability skills. The Scottish Technology Industry Survey indicated that web development is one of the most in-demand digital skills. The survey identified that 34% of the U.K. digital sector was located in Edinburgh and the Lothians, the most active tech sector outside of London. Edinburgh College has strong industry connections with Edinburgh-based digital companies. Many of our students have progressed towards a successful career within the digital industry.
This course will ensure you are well-prepared for employment, self-employment, or university courses at the degree level.

- Year three of your studies may be a placement year

Placement information
- There may be opportunities for employer-led projects during the College part of the course. These will be encouraged by your College lecturers, but are not mandatory.
- Edinburgh Napier University offers placements as part of your third year of study.
How the course is assessed
- The course is mainly assessed on your practical skills.
- There will be some written assignments and multiple-choice tests.
- The Graded Unit for year one is an exam, and for year two is a project.
Number of days per week
- Approximately 18 hours per week, which we try to schedule into 3 days, it is recommended that you dedicate 5 days per week to this course.
- The course is demanding, and assignments and projects will be set for you to complete at your own pace.
Entry requirements
- For school leavers: Three Higher passes, consisting of a B grade Pass in English or Communications and two other C passes.
- For college learners: SCQF Level 6 course in a relevant subject such as Software Development and Web.

- You will be invited to attend an interview, where you will be asked to complete an online screening exercise to assess your skills.

- After the first year, you can progress to the second year of HND Web Development (please note that Year 2 of this course is run at the Milton Road campus).
- After the second year, you can progress to the third Year of the BSc Web Development at Edinburgh Napier University.
- Other university options are available for first- and second-year entry.
